Green With Envy?

A brand new 2009 colour combination has just been added to the ever-expanding Brian May Guitars Special range. This time, we've opted for a striking Translucent Green, with white binding, contrasting black plates and chrome hardware.

Already the choice of Jamie Humphries, guitarist in the UK touring production of We Will Rock You, this new finish is a permanent addition to the line and is in stock now, complete with BMG padded gig bag, or with a premium quality, Hiscox "Liteflite" moulded BMG stamped hard case.

BMG At The London Guitar Show

The complete BMG canon of instruments was on display at the year's biggest MI shindig - the London Guitar Show at the ExCel Exhibition Centre (June 12th - 15th)..

Alongside the full line-up of BMG Special's in a variety of standard and Limited Edition finishes, the House Music stand showcased a stack of new, established and upcoming products, including the superb, premium quality Super, the pint-sized Mini-May and the first prototypes of a Brian May designed electro-acoustic guitar.

The assembled players, fans and industry movers and shakers were also treated to an amazing opportunity to view some very exclusive custom instruments, including the FACE - a 60th birthday present to Brian May from Barry Moorhouse, who commissioned British artist Paul Karslake (brother of Jo Wood, Rolling Stone Ronnie's former wife) to create the beautifully cosmic finish.

Interview with Michael Caswell

Brian May Guitars recently met with guitar ace, MICHAEL CASSWELL to talk candidly with him about his experience with the BMG Special.

Michael's credits as a musician, songwriter, singer and producer include Ronan Keating, Rose Royce, drum legend Cozy Powell, Dean Freidman, ex-Kajagoogoo singer Limahl, Rhino's Revenge Band and Brian May. His playing has been heard on countless TV Ads, jingles, theme tunes and soundtracks, including the cult 1985 William Friedkin crime drama “To Live And Die In LA”.

Currently one of the principal guitarists in We Will Rock You, London, Michael very kindly took time out from his exhaustive schedule to offer some insight into how the BMG Special measures up in such a high pressure gig.

We Will Rock You Special... Slight Return

It is House Music policy to replace and update guitars in the smash hit musical on a regular basis. We have recently replaced another such guitar and so have the following unique instrument available...

Our latest ex-We Will Rock You guitar is, once again, an original Burns model Special (serial# BHM1777) and was Alan Darby’s spare ‘E’ tuned axe. Featuring stock issue control knobs, the headstock bears the sticker ‘Spare E Alan’ and the back of the headstock reads ‘AD33’.

It is signed by Brian May and Laurie Wisefield and is offered at the original retail price of £499, complete with BMG padded gig bag and is available on a strictly 'first come, first served' basis by calling House Music directly.

All ex-WWRY Instruments are now SOLD OUT

Today's Special... Meat Loaf

Paul CrookSuperstar guitarist, Paul Crook - a true WWRY veteran after a 16 month stint in the hit musical's Las Vegas run, gives his personal appraisal of the BMG Special...

"It's the most versatile instrument I own... Fat, nasty, warm, clean - my BMG Special does it all!"

New Jersey born Paul - a former protégé of Bernie Marsden, song writing partner with Glenn Hughes and guitar tech and stand-in guitarist for Anthrax - has been a member of the mighty Meat Loaf's Neverland Express band since 2003. He is is currently on the road with his trusty white BM Special on an extensive global jaunt in support of the burly rocker's latest hit album "Bat Of Hell III - The Monster Is Loose".

Tristan Avakian Reviews The BMG Special

Having recorded with Lauryn Hill, Biohazard, Rob Thomas, Jim Carroll and Mariah Carey and with theatre credits including the original Broadway run of Billy Joel penned hit "Movin' Out" and the the cult smash "Hedwig & The Angry Inch" under his belt, Tristan Avakian is currently the principal guitarist for the Canadian production of We Will Rock You at Toronto's Canon Theatre.

Here's what he has to say about the BMG Special...

Brian and his dad made only one guitar and it's amazing how much they got absolutely right.

Somehow it combines the clarity of a Strat with the snarl of a Les Paul and the massive warmth, sustain and harmonic complexity of an ES-335... marvellous.

If it's Brian's tone you're after, The Special gets you 90% there. The rest is up to you.

It does way more than that, however... I own all three of the aforementioned guitars, and lately I just bring the BM to recording sessions. I can easily go from, say, a clean, plinky '60's spy-movie tone to balls-out arena rock in the blink of an eye, and all points between.

I can see the advert now - "You want it all? You've got it all!"

Any advice I can offer on using it properly? Turn it up!!!

We Will Rock You Special

ILaurie Wisefieldt is our policy to replace and update guitars in the smash hit musical on a regular basis. We have recently replaced one such guitar and accordingly have the following unique instrument available...

This is an original Burns Brian May model, used in every show for the last 5 years. Identified as Alan 'D' guitar on the front and rear of the headstock, this was used by Al Darby as one of the 'drop tune' guitars. Both control knobs have been changed to Gibson style with numbers, as specified by the show's MD.

Otherwise stock issue, the guitar was signed by each of the original 'We Will Rock You' guitarists - Al Darby and Laurie Wisefield  - and by Dr. May himself, at the recent 5th anniversary performance (Laurie pictured here with the instrument in front of Roger Taylor's Queen bass drum).

Offered at the original retail price, this guitar is available on a strictly 'first come, first served' basis by contacting House Music directly.

All ex-WWRY Instruments are now SOLD OUT

Frank Rohles & The BMG Special

Frank RohlesHere's top guitarist, Frank Rohles who performed in the Cologne production of We Will Rock You, showcasing his brand new Limited Edition Black 'n' Gold BMG Special at a recent concert (recorded for a forthcoming DVD) with his new Queen tribute band The Queen Kings.

A successful solo and first-call session player, Frank also has a long-term association with another Queen tribute act Innuendo, so was a natural choice for the inaugural German version of the hit show. He has subsequently been appointed "Guitar Supervisor" for new WWRY productions in both Switzerland and Canada.

The Baby Blue

Brian May Guitars Special - Baby BlueJust before Christmas, Brian May contacted the House Music office requesting a Baby Blue Special guitar as a custom order for him.

Seizing the idea, we thought it would be a nice idea to produce a limited edition run of these beautiful instruments.

With striking white pearl scratchplates and gold hardware, this is a neat twist on the Special, with a great retro vibe!

The initial production run will be limited to just 24 pieces, but we're hoping that it'll be popular enough to add to the catalogue as a standard colour,
