"I’m using a Mini May in the show now, too - it seems to work just fine straight out of the box... Honest!" - Dr Brian May • Feb 2016

Brian May Guitars Mini May 2015

With an ultra-compact, Red Special flavoured body shape and neck design, the new, upgraded Mini May now features a significantly extended scale length to improve intonation and playability. The bridge, with 6 individually adjustable saddles, has been moved further towards the back of the guitar, increasing the scale length to 22.7".

The single Tri-Sonic style pickup has been re-positioned accordingly and is now routed directly into the body whilst the scratchplate retains its original position, thereby preserving the unique BMG aesthetics.

Another marvellous Mini May masterclass - consummate Milanese virtuoso Frank Campese (guitarist with Italian power metal proggers Chronosfear and Queen tribute, Stones Cold Crazy) delivers his travel sized take on Dr. Brian May's "Brighton Rock" solo from Queen's triumphant '86 performance at Wembley Stadium.

Big sound in a small body
Monday, 10 August 2020  |

I love this guitar! I bought the BMG Special a month ago and I really like it but the Mini is much easier for me to carry around and it sounds great. I originally bought it for my son to play when he visits, but I think he may have to get his own! Customer service was great on both of my orders and the shipping was faster than I expected as I live in the States.

Very pleased!
Tuesday, 10 March 2020  |

Pros - good quality, the Tri-sonic pickup sounds amazing, responds well to pedals, smooth neck and very playable. I play a lot of country rock and this thing would work well for a small gig. I play a lot of slide too and have 11’s on it now. Well worth the price.

Cons - wouldn’t stay in tune when I received it. Took it to Guitar Center for a set-up and it plays like a dream now. Balance is poor too. Body is too light and it leans forward. You have to locate the strap as if you were playing a ukulele, to balance out.

Overall it’s a really good guitar and I’m really pleased with the purchase! Highly recommend!!!

Great sound in a little itty bitty body
Wednesday, 1 January 2020  |

I bought the Mini May for my husband to use as a travel guitar, but it has been so fun to play that he often plays it while hanging out on the sofa at home.

The sound is terrific and the size makes it easy to go anywhere. We love it.

Highly recommend!

Great little guitar
Sunday, 9 December 2018  |

Fantastic customer service from House and super fast delivery.

As it comes out of the box, intonation was a little off - 5 minute fix, action was a little higher than I like - again, easy fix. Great tone from a little guitar and it certainly isn't a toy. I'm 62 years old and haven't touched a guitar for almost 40 years but it all came flooding back and I couldn't put it down My fingers are killing me. I bought a Yamaha THR10 to go with it - best decision I ever made. Then my wife saw me drooling over a Digitech Trio + and bought one for me as a birthday present (I knew there was a reason I married her). It'll soon be Christmas so I am currently making sure that every time she comes into the room I am drooling over a BMG Super...

BTW, I am a lifelong Queen fan (I hitchhiked across Europe on my own in 1986 to see them in Budapest).

Small is beautiful
Friday, 28 September 2018  |

Now that I've had some time to play with it, I thought I'd share my thoughts here.

It arrived in a good shape, perfectly playable after having been tuned, with quite good intonation. No further setup needed. Of course, the size enforces a different playing position while sitting than its "big sister", but apart from that it plays surprisingly well. Since I bought it mainly as a travel guitar, I'm happy with it; together with a little Blackstar Fly 3 amp, it's just what I wanted.

The 22.7" scale length is close enough to normal, so my "finger brain" wasn't irritated too much. The neck is a bit less wide than the Special's, but it's still easily playable, at least for my fingers. It has a slightly rough finish on the backside, unlike the polished neck on the Special. Feels nice.

One thing that I'm not overly happy with: the balance. You can't easily play it strapped while standing, since the neck dives heavily. Inevitable with the geometry, I guess. Fastening a strap to the head isn't really working well, either, since the body is rather short - the whole neck is moving too far to the right then. It's obviously meant for a sitting position.

Anyway - it does what I want, it looks great, sounds OK, and I think I got a really good value for the price paid. I can sit and play with it for hours, and that's what I've been frequently doing since I got it

Really good sound
Thursday, 22 March 2018  |

The guitar Looks like expected and it was delivered in a good shape. I plugged it in my VOX amp and got a really good sound. Second time I used it the strings were completely out of tune. So I am fearing a little bit that this happens all the time. However we will see what happens. Nevertheless it is an excellent value for money.

Great Small Guitar
Thursday, 15 March 2018  |

This is a real quality item. Delighted with it. I bought it for my son (7) to start guitar and it is ideal. Stays in tune and intonates well. Great service when purchased as well. I think I’ll get the full size one for myself.

Super!
Tuesday, 3 January 2017  |

I am not a guitarist, more of a die hard Queen / Brian May fan. However, my son is an accomplished guitarist and is impressed with the "Mini May".

Aesthetically, the guitar appears well made and I would recommend to anyone looking a small practice guitar. Mine is signed so probably won't be played a lot.

Very happy with this purchase!
Saturday, 24 December 2016  |

Obviously having a guitar that is hand-signed by Brian May is something special. I already had in mind ordering a Mini May in the near future but when this Summer Tour offer came along I didn't have to think twice! It was guite a long wait (I placed the order in May, after the opening gig of Q+AL at the Rock in Rio Lisboa Festival and the guitar arrived last Wednesday, Dec. 21) but definitely worth that wait.

The Mini May is obviously not as versatile as my BMG Special. There is a difference in building quality but this guitar is not supposed to be an exact copy of The Red Special. One thing I would like to mention is that the fretboard of the BMG Special is the most comfortable for playing than anything else on the market. It would be very nice if the Mini May would have the same on that.

But I am very pleased with the guitar and the overall shopping experience at BMG!

Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to new special offers and additions to the BMG family!

Cheers!
