BMG Review from Rock Licks

Many, many thanks to James Rundle from South Shields, UK for this great overview of the Brian May Guitars website and the BMG range.

A guitar teacher with over 30 years of playing experience, James will be familiar to many of you from his popular YouTube channel ROCK LICKS GUITAR TUITION.

Dedicated to the music of Queen and Brian May and aimed at beginner and intermediate guitarists, his videos feature no-nonsense, easy to follow song lessons with full guitar tab as well as technique tutorials, gear reviews and Queen chat.

Rock Licks is also home to CHARLIE LEARNS GUITAR, a series of videos featuring James' son (and rock-star in waiting) Charlie Rundle with his BMG MINI MAY as he masters the riffs from rock anthems including "Iron Man", Living After Midnight", "Seven Nation Army", "Eye Of The Tiger" and "Dragon Attack".

BMG One Voice Signed Mini May Exclusive

As we reported last week, the new and improved BMG Mini May travel guitar, described as a "sensation" by Brian himself, has been a big hit on the Italian leg of the "One Voice" tour with initial quantities selling out almost immediately. An urgent delivery to replenish stocks for the remaining Eastern European dates has also now completely sold out!

Whilst we are obviously overjoyed that this diminutive instrument has proved to be such a big seller, the unprecedented demand means we will be unable to supply any more Mini Mays until May/June 2016.

Needless to say, we have already received numerous requests from disappointed fans and we are determined to give EVERYONE who supported Kerry and Brian a chance to get their own autographed tour souvenir.

So the good news is that Brian May Guitars is offering ticket holders the opportunity to register now to purchase their very own exclusive Mini May, signed by Dr. May.

Simply complete the online form HERE, submitting a scan or a photograph of your "One Voice" tour ticket stub/receipt and, as soon as the next shipment is available for despatch, we will contact you with full details of how to complete your purchase.

Mini Mays On Tour with Brian May & Kerry Ellis

Brian May and Kerry Ellis during the Italian leg of their intimate "One Voice" tour, where the brand new BMG Mini May proved to be a big hit on the merchandise stand... so much so, in fact, that stocks of the guitar completely sold out within the first few dates!

The Mini May Unleashed

The "Sensational" new BMG Mini May got its very first live outing last night (Feb 24th) at the Obihall in Firenze on the Italian leg of the Brian May/Kerry Ellis "One Voice" Tour, Brian using the tiny RS flavoured travel guitar to charming effect on the duo's version of The Beatles deep-cut "Tell Me What You See" (from the 1964 "Help" LP).

Needless to say, the Mini May was the biggest seller of the night on the merch stand and has become quite the hot topic on social media.

Declaring it as "a sensation", Brian took to Twitter to describe it as "a pretty serious guitar... especially suited to young players with smaller fingers". Better still, he declares on his own soapbox page that "it seems to work just fine - straight out of the box... Honest!".

New Mini Mays Incoming

The latest photos from the factory floor show the brand new 2015 Mini May production in full swing.

The upgraded, travel-ready model features a fresh design with a longer 576mm scale length, 42mm nut width, Antique Cherry finished white poplar body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and single BM Brand Tri-Sonic style pickup.

The first shipment is arriving imminently!

BMG At The London Guitar Show

The complete BMG canon of instruments was on display at the year's biggest MI shindig - the London Guitar Show at the ExCel Exhibition Centre (June 12th - 15th)..

Alongside the full line-up of BMG Special's in a variety of standard and Limited Edition finishes, the House Music stand showcased a stack of new, established and upcoming products, including the superb, premium quality Super, the pint-sized Mini-May and the first prototypes of a Brian May designed electro-acoustic guitar.

The assembled players, fans and industry movers and shakers were also treated to an amazing opportunity to view some very exclusive custom instruments, including the FACE - a 60th birthday present to Brian May from Barry Moorhouse, who commissioned British artist Paul Karslake (brother of Jo Wood, Rolling Stone Ronnie's former wife) to create the beautifully cosmic finish.

BMG United

The first ever Brian May Guitars sponsored junior 7-a-side soccer team grabs the headlines!

From the READING EVENING POST 03/09/2008

"Brian's Gift Is A Kind Of Magic"

A junior football team hope to be singing "We Are The Champions" after landing a sponsorship deal with Queen guitarist Brian May.

Purley Jubilee Under-10s managed to pull a few strings and strike a chord with the long-haired axeman who played on hit records including "A Kind Of Magic".

New team manager Peter Malandrone is May’s guitar technician and decided to approach his boss when the costs involved in running a boys’ football team became apparent and they needed a new kit. He said: “My boy joined a football team but there were too many boys so they needed another team. They asked me and my friend if we would manage them and we said ‘yes’. You then realise that you need to get sponsorship and so on, so I thought I’d ask Brian. He’s not a football fan at all but he’s absolutely keen on supporting our team.”

The sponsorship deal has financed a complete set of kit for the players, who will run out with Brian May Guitars emblazoned across their chests. Mr Malandrone said: “We just thought it would be a bit of a laugh but it’s really nice of Brian to buy the lads a full new kit.”

The manager, whose nine-year-old son Frankie plays at centre back, said he hopes the team will create an impression on the Hicks Development League Division Six.

“We’re starting at the bottom and hope to work our way up,” he said.“I think the sponsorship will create a bit of a stir when we turn up at tournaments. Most teams will have Joe Bloggs’ Builders or Peter’s Painters on their shirts but we’re sponsored by Brian May, which is certainly a bit different. We’re going to put the results on the Brianmayguitars.co.uk website and we may even sell replica Purley Jubilee shirts as merchandise at his gigs.”

When asked whether the team would adopt any of Brian May’s Queen songs as a club anthem, Mr Maladrone replied: “Maybe we should get a ghetto blaster and play "We Are the Champions" before matches – that would get a bit of a reaction.”

May famously played guitar on the roof at Buckingham Palace when he opened a celebration concert for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
