Guitar Interactive BMG Review Special

Issue 40 of Guitar Interactive sees master guitarist and We Will Rock You veteran, Jamie Humphries take control of the always excellent free online magazine for a massive tribute to Brian May.

"Choosing a Brian May Special or, even better, a Super, will set you apart from the crowd... you will get a fabulous guitar in either case and one that will go places other guitars simply cannot venture into"

Alongside brand new interviews with Brian and his long serving tech Pete Malandrone (available exclusively in the magazine's online edition), Jamie presents a trio of extensive video reviews of the BMG Super, the BMG Special and the electro acoustic BMG Rhapsody.

The bumper edition also includes appraisals of Nigel Knight's Deacy amp replica, the Vox Custom AC30C2 and the full range of Greg Fryer/Knight Audio and KAT treble boosters.

BM aficionados should head to the GI website to check out Jamie's web-exclusive "Tone On A Budget" video in which the BMG Special is just one element in an eminently affordable hardware solution to the age-old conundrum of how to get the Brian May sound without blowing the bank.

Shout Out to BMG from Pro Tools Expert

The latest podcast (#206) from the always informative and engaging team at PRO TOOLS EXPERT published today includes a great shout out to Brian May Guitars from resident guitar guru Dan Cooper.

The studio ace and BRIT school graduate has long been a Special fan, having previously owned a Burns model for 13 years, but, for his "find of the week", the recent purchase of a stunning new natural finish BMG model has "confirmed to me why I love this style of guitar".

Evidently Dan is a very happy man with his new acquisition...

"it's awesome... I have not put it down all week!"

Most importantly, he clearly believes exactly what we and so many reviewers and BMG players have also come to understand...

"It's a Strat-killer in the studio. it's got 13 different pickup selections, a better neck, a clever tremolo. A lot of clients that work with me, they love that guitar because it can do anything, very well. It's not like "oh, we'll sound like Brian May today"... we can make it sound like a Les Paul or a Telecaster... it's absolutely amazing, cheaper than a USA Strat, and - I think - built better".

LISTEN TO DAN'S "FIND OF THE WEEK" HERE.

New BMG Video Review from Pro Tools Expert

Online community website PRO TOOLS EXPERT recently featured a great, down-to-earth appraisal of the BMG Special from resident guitar ace Dan Cooper.

Dan, a BRIT school graduate and long term BMG aficionado, does an excellent job of showcasing the wonders of the Special during his engaging and energetic video review, deftly explaining the mysteries of the switching system and tremolo assembly and ably demonstrating why the Special makes such a superb - and affordable - addition to his own studio arsenal.

BMG One Voice Signed Mini May Exclusive

As we reported last week, the new and improved BMG Mini May travel guitar, described as a "sensation" by Brian himself, has been a big hit on the Italian leg of the "One Voice" tour with initial quantities selling out almost immediately. An urgent delivery to replenish stocks for the remaining Eastern European dates has also now completely sold out!

Whilst we are obviously overjoyed that this diminutive instrument has proved to be such a big seller, the unprecedented demand means we will be unable to supply any more Mini Mays until May/June 2016.

Needless to say, we have already received numerous requests from disappointed fans and we are determined to give EVERYONE who supported Kerry and Brian a chance to get their own autographed tour souvenir.

So the good news is that Brian May Guitars is offering ticket holders the opportunity to register now to purchase their very own exclusive Mini May, signed by Dr. May.

Simply complete the online form HERE, submitting a scan or a photograph of your "One Voice" tour ticket stub/receipt and, as soon as the next shipment is available for despatch, we will contact you with full details of how to complete your purchase.

Mini Mays On Tour with Brian May & Kerry Ellis

Brian May and Kerry Ellis during the Italian leg of their intimate "One Voice" tour, where the brand new BMG Mini May proved to be a big hit on the merchandise stand... so much so, in fact, that stocks of the guitar completely sold out within the first few dates!

The Mini May Unleashed

The "Sensational" new BMG Mini May got its very first live outing last night (Feb 24th) at the Obihall in Firenze on the Italian leg of the Brian May/Kerry Ellis "One Voice" Tour, Brian using the tiny RS flavoured travel guitar to charming effect on the duo's version of The Beatles deep-cut "Tell Me What You See" (from the 1964 "Help" LP).

Needless to say, the Mini May was the biggest seller of the night on the merch stand and has become quite the hot topic on social media.

Declaring it as "a sensation", Brian took to Twitter to describe it as "a pretty serious guitar... especially suited to young players with smaller fingers". Better still, he declares on his own soapbox page that "it seems to work just fine - straight out of the box... Honest!".

Babicz Steven Wilson Exclusive

The BMG team thought you might like to know about a brand new and very special instrument arriving imminently at our sister store, The Acoustic Centre...

The Acoustic Centre • London • England - the exclusive UK & European stockist of Babicz Guitars - is pleased to announce that the inaugural production run of the Babicz Steven Wilson Signature Model is now available to pre-order on a strictly "first come, first served" basis.

Steven Wilson - erstwhile Porcupine Tree frontman, hugely successful solo artist and all-round "king of prog rock"- has long been a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Babicz guitars, with the revolutionary Identity Series Dreadnought famously being his main acoustic instrument for over a decade.

To celebrate, the boldly experimental British artist was invited by Jeff Babicz, one of the USA's most forward thinking guitar builders, to help create a brand new signature instrument.

Based on Steven's preferred cutaway design and engineered to his exacting standards, the result is a striking guitar that combines slick good looks with consummate construction, superior performance and unparalleled versatility, employing the full complement of cutting edge Babicz innovations to maximum effect.

This model is the very same instrument that Steven Wilson currently uses on the current marathon world tour in support of his wildly acclaimed 2015 solo album, the soulful and immersive masterpiece, "Hand. Cannot. Erase.”

Brian May & Avante Guitars

Keen eyed visitors to Brian May's official website may have noticed him pictured with a very unusual new acoustic instrument.

The guitar in question is the Avante Gryphon, designed by veteran American luthier Joe Veillette. A striking, travel sized, electro-acoustic 12-string, the Gryphon plays just like a regular guitar but is tuned to high D (equivalent to the 10th fret of a standard guitar) and delivers a lush, colourful, mandolin-like sound with a shimmering, naturally chorused top end character.

Describing the instrument as "a joy in itself", Brian has been using the Gryphon in the studio for a new project with Kerry Ellis.

The upgraded, travel-ready model features a fresh design with a longer 576mm scale length, 42mm nut width, Antique Cherry finished white poplar body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and single BM Brand Tri-Sonic style pickup.
